Protecting people and planet with MBSE

Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace’s long-standing history and cutting-edge advancements in defense systems were showcased, emphasizing their new slogan, “Protecting People and Planet.” The company, with 210 years of experience, highlighted its world-class weapon stations that enhance safety and reduce collateral damage by allowing gunners to operate from inside tanks. Notably, their air defense system, NASAMS, is currently defending lives in Ukraine. The presentation also delved into the complexities of missile development, requiring extensive collaboration among engineers over many years, and the critical importance of cyber security and compliance.

Emphasizing a shift towards model-based systems engineering (MBSE), it illustrated how integrating various data sets and models can streamline processes, improve communication, and ensure robust, error-free designs. The company’s transition from traditional document-based methods to a fully integrated MBSE approach, using tools like CATIA Magic and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, aims to enhance efficiency and maintain strict regulatory compliance, ultimately supporting their mission of effective and sustainable defense solutions.
